The VNYE app and website allow anyone around the world to walk around Times Square and play games in a virtual world. You can also watch the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Times Square and around the world in real time.

Jamestown, owner of the One Times Square building, famous for its New Year’s Eve Ball Drop event, launched VNYE in 2019. VNYE emerged as a new way for everyone to safely welcome the new year in a situation where face-to-face events have become difficult in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, and that year gathered more than 3.7 million users from around the world.

Jamestown President Michael Phillips said, “VNYE is designed to maximize the New Year’s Eve experience and to bring the world to Times Square at a time when physical access is limited. To complement the event, it will be a virtual stage where people from all over the world come together to celebrate New Year’s Eve.”

Times Square Alliance President Tom Harris said, “Times Square New Year’s Eve is a global celebration where everyone gathers to leave the year behind and welcome the new year. By creating a stage to communicate with Times Square, we deepened our relationships and presented a way to celebrate New Year’s Eve that people could not have imagined.”

Users can create custom avatars in the VNYE virtual world, walk around Times Square, and collect confetti to redeem their Atava with points. You can also visit the One Times Square Observatory to overlook the virtual Times Square.

Inside the One Times Square building, you can enjoy three different immersive games. Dance World, where users show off their dance skills; Nature World, where users search for New Year’s Eve Ball pieces in a variety of natural landscapes; and visit landmarks and power-up around the world. Power-up and Zero G, who accumulate points, are the main characters.

From December 31, 2021, users will be able to view Times Square from one of 11 live cameras. You can also choose from one of seven EarthCams that broadcast live New Year’s Eve festivals around the world, including Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Budapest, Hungary.

Users can ring the New Year’s bell in the Times Square virtual world at midnight on New Year’s Eve, participate in a virtual ball-drop festival and fireworks.
