The Copa America Centenario, also referred to as the Centennial Copa America, is coming to ten cities in the U.S. in Summer 2016. It will likely include soccer stars that only need single name identifiers — Messi, Neymar, Suarez and others.

There is a strong chance that you know nothing about Copa America to date. However, it is as close to a World Cup as you can get in international football.

Here are some business details behind Copa America, which marks the first time that there will be a unified competition of the Americas with full North American participation.

Copa America could be the biggest soccer event since 1994.

“The scale of the 2016 Copa America Centenario will be, at a minimum, twice the size of Copa America 2015, from both in-stadium attendance, global television reach and U.S. market awareness,” said Kathy Carter, President of Soccer United Marketing, Major League Soccer’s commercial arm. “ This will be the single biggest soccer event since the 1994 FIFA World Cup , and we expect that to start with the launch of ticket sales.”

Ticket sales to the general public begin February 3, 2016 and Jay Berhalter, CEO of Copa America, says that his organization has collected hundreds of thousands of emails to push information out to in the near future.

“Copa America is a big deal, the largest international sporting event to take place in the U.S since the 2002 Olympics,” said John Guppy, founder of Gilt Edge Soccer Marketing.
