Nervous flyers will be losing quite a lot of sleep over the latest aviation invention – a battery-operated plane.
The aircraft manufacturer Wright Electric has revealed its plans for a 150-seater plane that is run on electricity.
The start-up company’s first plane is an airliner designed for short-haul flights like New York-Boston, London-Paris, and Seoul-Jeju.
That’s because the team believes that flights under 300 miles work best with battery power.
In order to make the plan work though, they need batteries to improve.
According to a blog post on their site, if batteries don’t get dramatically better in the next decade, they will design their plane as a hybrid with electric motors, like a Volt.
But if batteries do get a lot better in the next decade, their plane will be fully-electric, which they say will make fantastic cost savings.
While they are expecting the improvements to batteries to take at least ten years, the company has already attracted the attention of a huge airline.
According to reports, EasyJet has already got in contact to discuss a potential partnership.
