Duracell has a rich history of innovation through continuously developing batteries that are more compact, more powerful, more efficient, and longer lasting than competitor brands. Since the 1940s when the roots of the original company were founded, Duracell has been responsible for many industry firsts, including the first alkaline AA and AAA batteries and the first hearing aid cell button. 1924 – Duracell originated via the partnership of scientist Samuel Ruben and businessman Philip Rogers Mallory, who met during the 1920s. The P. R. Mallory Company of Burlington, Massachusetts, United States, relocated its headquarters to Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1924.

1965 – Duracell brand name is introduced along with a push for consumer-driven programs and products. Batteries are directly supplied to Agfa, Kodak and Polaroid, producers of a new generation of portable consumer devices such as tape recorders and walkie-talkies.

1969 – Duracell is part of the Apollo 11 mission and becomes the first battery on the moon.

1971 – Duracell introduces its iconic copper & black colors which symbolize the conductivity, strength and superiority of its battery formula.

1973 – Birth of the Duracell Bunny. Ever since, the bunny has epitomized Duracell’s superior battery longevity compared to ordinary zinc carbon batteries. March 2012 – Along with Powermat Technologies, Duracell, under the Procter & Gamble corporate umbrella, founded the Power Matters Alliance (PMA), an alliance of leading industry and governmental organizations that is dedicated to advancing smart and environmentally sound wireless power.

2013 – The company released a “Duracell Quantum” line as their top-performing alkaline batteries.

February 2022 – Duracell announced a long-term partnership deal with Williams Racing. The deal culminated with the vertical air intake of the car designed like a Duracell battery, which was first introduced in the 2022 Miami Grand Prix.
