Orville Redenbacher was founded by Orville Clarence Redenbacher, was an American food scientist and businessman. Orville is born on a farm in Brazil, Indiana, which, as luck would have it, is a great place to grow corn. At 12 years old, Orville begins to grow his own popping corn. It becomes his passion, and his first business, allowing him to save enough for college, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Purdue University.

In 1951, he and partner Charlie Bowman bought the George F. Chester and Son seed corn plant in Boone Grove, Indiana. Naming the company “Chester Hybrids”, they tried tens of thousands of hybrid strains of popcorn before settling on a hybrid they named “RedBow”.

The product was launched to the public in 1969 and was sold to Hunt-Wesson, a division of Norton Simon Inc. in 1976. In 1983, Esmark purchased Norton Simon, and the next year (1984), Beatrice Foods acquired Esmark. In 1985, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts acquired Beatrice with the goal of selling off businesses. The popcorn business and other old Hunt-Wesson businesses were sold in 1990 to agribusiness giant Conagra Brands.

According to many consumer reviews, Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn always pops up light and fluffy and has a good corn taste.  All of the kernels pop into light, crunchy morsels that are movie theater delicious when they’re topped with butter and salt. Big fluffy popcorn that tastes fresh and fantastic every-time. This is 1st American favorite popcorn brand.
