Crouser’s last throw was 23.30m, which was an Olympic record of course, and seven centimeters from the world record he set seven weeks ago. It’s two straight gold medals for Crouser, with teammate Joe Kovacs grabbing the silver at 22.65m. That would have been the Olympic record at the start of the competition today. The bronze goes to Tomas Walsh of New Zealand at 22.47m.
Without a doubt, this is one of the dominant athletes in all of the American sports right now.
Crouser’s third throw was a 22.86, which would have been the Olympic record about 15 minutes ago, but his second throw was bigger and is the one that counts for now.
Ryan Crouser of Team USA was a -1000 favorite to win the shot put gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics from DraftKings Sportsbook. And with four throws remaining in the final, he’s already shattered the Olympic record that won him gold in Rio in 2016.
Crouser’s previous Olympic record was 22.52m, and his latest throw of 22.93 puts him 74 centimeters of teammate Joe Kovacs, who is in second place for silver. Tomas Walsh of New Zealand sits in third with a toss of 22.17.
Crouser’s world record of 23.37 that he set in June of 2021 at the Olympic Trials would seem to be in play here. We’ll keep an eye on his last four throws and see if he can make even more history.
