(uskings.us) Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK or MSKCC) is a cancer treatment and research institution in New York City, founded in 1884 as the New York Cancer Hospital. MSKCC is the largest and oldest private cancer center in the U.S, and is one of 51 National Cancer Institute–designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers. Its main campus is located at 1275 York Avenue, between 67th and 68th streets, in Manhattan.

Founded in 1884, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center specializes in cancer care, treating hundreds of subtypes of the disease every year.

Patients are treated by a multidisciplinary team, which might include a surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist and radiologist, depending on their disease. The center’s inpatient hospital in Manhattan houses facilities where patients can receive immunotherapy, chemotherapy and other cancer treatments; an urgent care center; a patient recreation center; and a children’s hospital.

A free shuttle transports patients between the inpatient hospital and several of the cancer center’s other treatment locations in Manhattan, including the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center, the Sillerman Center for Rehabilitation and several other facilities. The cancer center also offers services at locations throughout New York and New Jersey.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has more than 120 research laboratories that focus on various types of cancer, and 38 core facilities, which offer technology and subject matter experts to researchers. The Sloan Kettering Institute conducts biomedical research focusing on better understanding the underpinnings of cancer. Patients also have the chance to participate in the cancer center’s large clinical trial program.
