A Florida man with an eidetic memory had the most epic showdown when he broke a World Record by memorizing the order of a deck of cards underwater and reorganizing a second deck into the same order.
During his official attempt in Miami, Nelson Dellis memorized the order of the playing cards while underwater and came to the surface to sort the second deck of cards into the same order.
Dellis finished in a remarkable time of just 2 minutes and 22.53 seconds to earn the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to arrange a deck of cards memorized underwater.
But remembering the sequence of playing cards to replicate the deck wasn’t the toughest part for Dennis who said the most challenging bit about his successful attempt for the World Records title was learning to hold his breath underwater for long enough.
“I had to learn a lot and really push my limits to advance that,” the Florida-based lecturer, author, mountaineer and a now-Guinness World Record holder.
He set out to become a memory champion in 2009 when his grandmother passed away due to Alzheimer’s disease and entered several competitive memory games competitions.
“I never really thought anything about my memory, or memory in general, until I saw hers deteriorate,” he said, according to a press release of the University of Miami.
Ever since, he has won five USA Memory Championship titles.
