In 1871, Claus Doscher created the first Doscher handcrafted candy cane in Cincinnati, Ohio. Their manufacturing process involved using real peppermint oil. Cooking small batches in copper kettles, and hand-working to roll, knead, stripe, and hook the canes. Doscher Brothers also manufactured a caramel popcorn they called Popcorn Fritters. The Doscher Brothers sold this popcorn to the Cincinnati Redlegs, which made them one of the first concessioners in American baseball.

Before being made into a more commercial or traditional bar form, French Chew was sold in large pieces that were broken up in candy stores and sold by the pound, which led to the French Chew’s advertising slogan, “Freeze It, Crack It, Smack It.”

For close to 150 years, Doscher’s has used the same recipe to ensure that each candy cane is perfectly chewy and airy. Doscher’s uses the same copper kettles and time-honored techniques so that every candy cane is a one-of-a-kind piece of confectionary art.

Most recently, Doscher’s acquired the Candy House Candy Buttons brand from the New England Confectionery Company (NECCO) and began breathing new life into one of the countries most beloved novelty candies.

Proudly claiming the title of America’s oldest continuously operating candy company, Doscher’s is on a significant growth path. A growing management team and a significant capital infusion over the last 18 months have Doscher’s Candy Co. poised for an exciting chapter heading into 2023 and beyond.
