One attendee named Kyle from Austin, Texas was the 200th Kyle there and it was his first time attending the festival.

He received a lot of emails about the festival and knew in advance that he would enjoy being at the gathering.

“It was funny. Somebody yelled out ‘Kyle’ trying to get their attention and all these people turned around. It was pretty funny,” said Kyle from Austin, Texas.

Many Kyles who attended wore a shirt displaying the statement ‘My name is Kyle.’

Another Kyle from Dallas, Texas who attended was number 1,325 and said they needed 800 more Kyles to attend in order to break the record of the largest same-name gathering.

“I’ve been a Texas native for a while and I’ve driven to Kyle, Texas before but this is a unique opportunity for a gathering of Kyles,” said Kyle from Dallas, Texas.

The verification process required eligible Kyles to show proof with an ID, and provide an address, and an available email or phone number. Minors or underaged Kyles needed to get vouched by a parent or guardian with an ID and contact information as well.

There were several vendors at the festival, bands playing, and other food and drink-oriented competitions at this event.

Update: The City said Kyles came from all over the world for the event, in hopes of beating the record of 2,325 people with the same first name together at the same time in the same place. After a thorough count and recount of all registrants, the City said it had a total of 1,490 Kyles in attendance.

The current world record comes out of Kupreski Kosci in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where 2,325 people named “Ivan” gathered on July 30, 2017.
