Italian cappuccino was introduced in America by the founder of Caffe Reggio, Domenico Parisi, in the early 1920s. Inside the cafe, against the back wall, there is still the original espresso machine, made in 1902, that Domenico Parisi bought with his savings when he opened the cafe in 1927. This cafe was also one of the first American cafes to sell a cappuccino. In addition to this retired workhorse, the cafe contains an original bench from the Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence.

Besides being the place where the cappuccino was introduced to America, the cafe’s striking interior has made it an ideal filming location for directors. The extensive list of movies shot here includes Greenwich Village, Next Stop, The Next Man, The Sun Is Also A Star, The Godfather Part 2, and more.

In 2010, the cafe was honored with a Village Award by the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation for its status as a beloved and essential part of the neighborhood.

If you’re looking for something sweet to pair with your cappuccino, order the zabaglione, a creamy concoction of whipped egg yolks crowned with fresh berries.
