Design engineer Mikael Kjellman produced the PodRide vehicle in Sweden with the basic idea of creating a weather protected and more comfortable bicycle.

Making use of an electric motor, this road-legal e-bicycle car can travel long distances both easier and cheaper whilst maintaining an eco-friendly journey.

And the bonkers designer has been driving it to-and-from work for a year.

Mikael said: “The basic idea of PodRide is to have a weather protected and more comfortable bicycle.

The PodRide has an electric motor and can travel long distances in all weather

“I put a lot of effort into making it practical but it has also proven to be real fun to drive.

“So my solution has been this four-wheeled, fully covered bicycle car.”

PodRide allows drivers to sit at the same height as those in normal cars and with extra room in the back for your luggage and shopping bags.

While it might leave drivers sniggering, it comes with ventilation, headlights and an indicator for safer cycling.

Mikael said: “It has a 250w crankshaft engine, with rear suspension, a comfortable, padded seat and you steer with sticks on the side of the vehicle and brake with handles.

“We drive on both rear wheels and with many gears, it can even take on steep hills and rough terrain.

“And to get better ventilation in the summer you can open up the lower part of the front window and both the side windows.

“I use this small electric heater to defrost the windows when parked outside in the winter.”

With a range of 60km and a top engine speed of around 25km/h, PodRide is road-legal in Sweden and most other countries.

They will go on sale later this year, with an exact price yet to be confirmed.
