Axiom Space, Inc., also known as Axiom, is an American privately funded space infrastructure developer headquartered in Houston, Texas. Founded in 2016 by Michael T. Suffredini and Kam Ghaffarian, the company is planning commercial missions in 2022 to the International Space Station (ISS) and aims to own and operate the world’s first commercial space station in 2024. The company’s leadership team is largely composed of former NASA employees, including former NASA Administrator Charles Bolden.

The company’s planned commercial activities include human spaceflight for space tourists, as well as government-funded and commercial astronauts engaging in in-space research, in-space manufacturing, and space exploration.

Axiom Space will build a 14-acre headquarters campus at the Houston Spaceport where the aerospace company plans to develop its Axiom Station, the world’s first free-flying, private space station.

The project is expected to bring more than 1,000 jobs to the new campus, which will include a 322,000-square-foot facility to accommodate Axiom Station modules as well as terminal space to house private astronauts, operations, engineering and related activities. The campus is being built on the 153-acre first phase of the Houston Spaceport at Ellington Field, less than 20 miles south of Downtown Houston.

Axiom Space says its internationally available Axiom Station will serve as humanity’s central hub for research, manufacturing and commerce in low Earth orbit.
