The American Rock Salt Company was founded on January 31st, 1997, when Joseph Bucci Sr., Gunther Buerman, Neil Cohen, and Charles VanArsdale entered into an asset purchasing agreement with Akzo-Nobel to acquire the assets and the developmental rights to a new salt mine.

Construction of the American Rock Salt Mine at Hampton Corners began in November 1998 and was completed three years later, on December 14th, 2001. The business is the first successful salt mine built in the United States in over 50 years. Daily production of the mine can reach 20,000 tons, making American Rock Salt the largest-producing salt mine in the U.S.A!

Unlike some competitors,  the mine’s rock salt comes from home – Mined in America at Hampton Corners facility 30 miles south of Rochester, New York. With the ability to produce large quantities of de-icing salt each year, American Rock Salt helps ensure safe winter road conditions for millions of people in over 12 states.

American Rock Salt has played a key role in the economies of neighboring communities, creating over 400 new jobs in Livingston County and hundreds of related jobs in the region through the transportation, rail, and construction industries.
