There have only been 113 people who have done the same in such an aircraft. In Eichhorn’s case, he will be flying his personal plane, a Beechcraft Bonanza.

Eichhorn is a military veteran from Virginia, who for the past 10 years has been a first officer with American airline JetBlue.
According to the company’s blog, Eichhorn had always wanted to be a pilot, but didn’t fly solo until he was 29 years old. He began a career in the military, aiming to become a pilot, but ended up on a different route. It wasn’t until the age of 50 that he began to train as a commercial pilot.
He has been working on his own plane – nicknamed Gina – and modifying it since 1989 and is now ready to take it around the world.

In a video from JetBlue, Eichhorn says that most pilots dream of flying around the world, but it’s not always practical when you’re starting out. Now, at the age of 60, it’s finally the time for him to do it, he says.
But it won’t be without its challenges.
“I have to prepare for the extreme winter in Iceland and Greenland, and then I have to be prepared for the extreme heat of flying through Saudi Arabia and then to Dubai”.
He notes that there are risks to flying a single-engine airplane, but he is excited for the adventure.
