The culmination of 16 years of hard work to build the worlds fastest street legal car has come to fruition. Thanks to the assistance of over a dozen sponsors, one of which includes Richard Rawlings and his famous Gas Monkey Garage, a 2006 Ford GT has cemented itself in the record books posting a 310 mph high speed pass in Florida earlier this month. The Ford GT is most commonly known as the “BADD GT” and is owned and piloted by Johnny Bohmer. Go figure, the attempt took place at the famed Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds where a (far less prepped) SSC Tuatara hit 295 mph.
Bohmer purchased the Ford GT off the showroom floor in 2006 with full intentions to make it the fastest street legal car the world has ever seen. His “BADD GT” beat a Guinness world record in 2012 for the Fastest Standing Mile in a street car at 282.232 mph. 10-years later, on Dec. 9, he posted a sensational 310.8 mph high speed pass at the JBPG, which also doubles as NASA’s Shuttle Landing Facility, located at the Kennedy Space Center. The tarmac measures 15,000 feet long by 100 yards wide.
When Bohmer exited the vehicle, one of his first remarks was “It’s still got more in it” leading us to believe trying to beat his own record is already top of mind.
While it looks like a race ca,r Bohmer is often seen driving the BADD GT around the south Florida area as he regularly uses it for errands. It runs on regular E-85 gasoline, has air conditioning, turn signals and all the normal amenities that come with a “regular” vehicle. With regard to capturing its top speed, the team used a Racelogic VBox Performance Box Touch as well as four Garmin Ultra 30 cameras, FuelTech’s ECU and a Racepak.
In its unaltered state, the 2006 Ford GT sports a 5.4L V8 producing a healthy 550 horsepower. The BADD GT, however, possesses some 2,700 horsepower.
