Mall of America (commonly, locally known as "MOA") is a shopping mall located in Bloomington, Minnesota, United States (a suburb of the Twin Cities). Southeast of the junction of Interstate 494 and Minnesota State Highway 77, north of the Minnesota River and across the Interstate from the Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport.
The mall was opened to public on August 11, 1992. It is visited by more than 42m people annually, roughly eight times the population of Minnesota. It permanently employs more than 11,000 people and employs 2,000 more under contract during peak seasons. The mall houses the world’s largest indoor park, Nickelodeon Universe. An aquarium with 100 sharks and more than 4,500 sea creatures is also a major attraction. It has 520 stores which generate more than $1.9 Billion.
The mall is managed by the Triple Five Group (which in turn is owned by Canada's Ghermezian family, along with the West Edmonton Mall). Eighty percent of visitors to the Mall of America are from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, the Dakotas, Illinois, Ohio, and Canada.
